You said a chip made these tunes?

This collection of 8-bit chiptunes made with the Gameboy soundfont has been created for your listening pleasure. Along with select .mp3 or .wav files, GB Studio readable files (.mod) are provided (potential future option for .uge also being considered).

Although SoundCloud appears to cut off the first moment of each song, here's a sampling of some of the longer tracks:

(HEADPHONES RECOMMENDED)

Okay, yeah, but I want more??

If you like the tracks and want to use it in an upcoming Gameboy-type project, consider donating to show your support!

While I am not (currently) a full time dev, if you want to collaborate or request an 8-bit song commission you can reach out to me at thetiptoptomcat@gmail.com.

What kind of vibes should I expect?

Track lengths are based on the exported .mp3 or .wav out of OpenMPT and may not reflect actual playback speeds in GB Studio  (gbstudio.dev/docs/music-gbt/).

For some tracks, a "slow" or "fast" version of the .mod file has been included for your convenience. Note that you can also tweak individual song tempo with "Disable 50/60 hertz speed conversion" in GB Studio using [View] -> [Music].

Additionally, interference may occur playing sound effects simultaneously with songs using all four channels. Versions have been included that do not use the "noise" channel (i.e. Channel 4, mostly used for percussion in my case).

All tracks are available in the  "8-bit Gameboy Songs Vol 2 (GB Studio).zip" files as .mod, with at least one version of each track exported as .mp3 or .wav

Tracks (Loopable):
- Another Time Perhaps [0:51 per loop]
- Countersunk [0:21 per loop]
- Herding Cats [0:07 per loop]
- Herding Pidgeons [0:07 per loop]
- Just Breathe [0:11 per loop]
- Sea of Life [0:38 per loop]
- Take it Back [0:30 per loop]

Tracks (Loopable after Intro):
- Falling to Earth [1:59 - Intro + 2 Cycles]
- Mushroom Tunnels [1:06 - Intro + 2 Cycles]
- Paddle the Cosmos [2:33 - Intro + 2 Cycles]
- Wild Wind [2:01 - Intro + 2 Cycles]

Tracks (Non-Loopable; plays once):
- Falling to Earth (No Loop) [1:11]

Stings:
- Caustic [0:15, loopable]
- My Heart My Soul V1 [0:06, plays once]
- My Heart My Soul V2 [0:06, plays once]
- My Walk [0:13, plays once]
- Where Have the Flowers Gone [0:13 per loop, different intro on repeat]

SFX:
Bonk, Collect, Error, Horse Jump, Jump Short, Ouch, Shoot, Unlocked

The .uge conversions are also ongoing, but you're free to try and use hUGETracker to convert the .mods yourself, it might just take some tweaking

Hi! I used some of your great tracks for my (free) little game "The Last One". Many thanks!

there's such a good variety of tunes in these packs!! the spread here is so generous and versatile. i used wild winds in a tiny bitsy game i made. thanks a ton for sharing!!!

That was a sweet little tale, I'm happy wild winds could add to it! Thank you for your kind words and for sharing that experience back!

Thank you very much for your music, which I used in this game: https://lacoste42.itch.io/chromanoids

That's awesome, I love the vibe of this game and how colorful it is! I think the music fits in really well with an action-puzzle like that. I went to go watch some gameplay of the ZX Spectrum version and those were also some sick 8-bit beats.

Yes, it suits very well. I usually do the music for the games, but this time it was so good that I didn't have to deal with it and I found something I liked in your music. Thanks!

I'm using your music by quoting you in my university project. Thank you for your creations! They are fantastic!

That's way cool! Glad you like what you heard and I hope the project goes well!

Hey, thank you for creating those assets! I used some them in my adventure game for GB Compo 2023. Game is called Bebok. You are credited on the game's main page and in game jam submission questionnaire too. Thanks again! :) <3

That was a great short story experience! Congrats on the jam submission and thanks for including some of my work as part of the adventure!

Hey mate love the music, but In the zip file I'd recommend adding a text document about the license. I did come back to check if credits were required, though some people may miss it and I believe this may prevent some misunderstandings.

I'm no professional but it might be a good idea to keep things safe.

even if the license just states the rules as simple as: credit me, leave a link to my account blah blah blah.

thanks for blessing my ears mate, have a good rest of your year.

Thanks for letting me know! My main concern at first with the license was bad actors claiming the work as their own. Looking back, I'd agree that a README with a set of rules would also definitely help honest folks trying to do the right thing.

In retrospect, such a text document should have been there all along, but sometimes you only figure these things out after the fact.

Glad you enjoyed the tunes, thanks for your kind words, and hope your year goes well too!
